Mark Nicol has been an associate of Southland Property Tax Consultants, Inc. since 2000, specializing in senior housing properties. Nicol founded Health Care Advisory Group (HCAG) of Fort Worth, Texas, in 1990, a nationally known consulting firm that specializes in the appraisal, brokerage, site selection and feasibility studies of senior living facilities such as nursing homes, assisted living facilities, retirement homes, and continuing care retirement communities. Nicol has been personally involved in various forms of analyses of over 2,000 such facilities nationwide. Between 1993 and 1999, Nicol assisted TORCH Health Care of Irving, Texas, in virtually all aspects of its expansion prior to its merger with Merrill Gardens, including the obtaining of both senior debt and private equity capital, brokerage of purchased and sold existing facilities, and site selection and feasibility services relating to properties in the south and southeastern United States.
Prior to 1990, Nicol was employed by Appraisal Services, Inc. of Fort Worth as Senior Appraiser. During his five years at ASI, Nicol provided both appraisal and appraisal review services to lending institutions on various types of commercial real estate, including residential subdivisions, multi-family developments and senior living developments.
Nicol is both a Broker and a Licensed Real Estate Appraiser in the State of Texas, as well as a member of the Appraisal Institute (MAI). He has also been certified as a residential care facility administrator by the State of California (inactive status). Nicol graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in Marketing in 1978.
